DUPR
What is DUPR
DUPR stands for Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating, and is a rating system that measures a player’s skill level in pickleball. It’s a global rating system that can be used by players of all levels, including amateurs and professionals, for any type of game. DUPR ratings are dynamic and can change after each game is played and reported, providing a real-time reflection of a player’s ability.
DUPR games can be played on our courts at almost any time. However, all 4 players must be registered on the DUPR app and it must be agreed upon in advance that it will be a DUPR game. See below for more information.
To Join DUPR
Joining DUPR is free and easy. Just download the DUPR app for your phone and/or go to the DUPR website and create an account.
Scoring
DUPR games can be played with Tournament scoring or Rally scoring. You can play to any score you decide on, but the winning team must score at least 6 points.
To Create a Game and Enter the Score
- These instructions assume you are using the DUPR app. If not using the app and you are on the website, the screens will be a little different, but intuitive.
- All four players must be registered on dupr.com so they can be selected in the DUPR app. If any of the players are not registered on dupr.com, you can use the “Invite” link to send an email and invite them to DUPR.
- You can play your game first, then enter the players and the score or you can select the players first then enter the scores. Do whichever way works best, it doesn’t make a difference to DUPR.
- From the DUPR home screen, Press “+ Add Match”. Your name will automatically appear as the first player on Team 1.
- Press Add Member to add the 2nd player for Team 1, and also press Add Member to add both players to Team 2.
- You can search a specific person’s name or a club name by using the search box at the top. Recent players will show up below the search box and can easily be selected by tapping on their name. Once a player is selected, press the green check-mark at the top right of the screen.
- Once all 4 players are selected, press Next at the top right of the screen.
- “What was the score” is now displayed. Select “Standard” or “Rally” to choose the scoring type. Standard is selected by default. Standard scoring is also known as Tournament Scoring.
- Enter the score for You and your Opponent. If more than one game was played with the same players on the same teams, you can enter additional scores on the same screen. Press Next at the top right to go to the next screen.
- “Match Details” will be the current page. Tap inside the Location box and the current city will come up. If that is the correct city, select it. If not search for the correct city and enter that city.
- The Date box will show the current date. If it is correct, you don’t need to change it. If it is not correct, tap in the box then select the proper date. Press Submit at the top of the page to submit your scores to DUPR.
- Once your scores are entered, each player must “Validate” their scores on their own phones. The DUPR app will automatically send a notification to your phone to verify your score. Once all 4 players verify their scores, the game will be entered into the DUPR system and be added to your stats.
Rules & Strategy
- Four DUPR registered players are required to play a DUPR doubles pickleball game.
- New Players automatically start at 3.5
- As long as you win, a rating will not go down
- Your rating will be available after the 1st game is entered and Validated, but it takes about 10 games to get an accurate rating.
- The best way to improve your rating is to win games against other players with a rating equal to or slightly better than yours.
- Playing lower rated players to increase a rating does not work well. Winning and point differential against lower rated players will move the needle very little.
- When one new player plays against another new player, ratings will not change much because the new player ratings are not considered to be very accurate.
